At 6.55am, my alarm goes off. After not being able to sleep most of the night, I was very unimpressed at the sound coming out of my phone. But I still had to get up, and get ready for the day ahead.
We got ready, and Andrew got up with us and came to reception to say goodbye after check-out. He also got us a 'going away' gift! Skittles & chocolate! I'm going to miss him as a roommate!
With all of our luggage and other things, the walk to the bus seemed a lot longer than the usual 10mins, and we were even going DOWN hill! We stopped at Gloria Jeans one last time, I've really grown addicted to their coffees, and I've used two 'frequent coffee' cards in one week! Lucky we were on good time, so we didn't miss our bus at 8.10am! There was one girl that came late actually, and tried to cut in front of Kristy & I, but she soon backed off when I said something to her. Don't think she was expecting it..
It was a good bus ride, something like 3hrs, and the entire time I was looking out the window, admiring the beautiful scenery, and daydreaming about becoming a professional 'travel' blogger with Kristy as my trusty photographer and exploring the world while someone paid us to do so! With my headphones in of course. I think if I tried to read with the movement of the bus and the lack of sleep, I'd get sick.
We got to Paihia, or otherwise known as 'The Bay of Islands' just after 12pm. We went and collected our stuff and debated calling a cab to our accommodation! It was only a 10min walk, as we found out. It wasn't too bad of a day, mostly overcast but not bad. I didn't need to wear tights under my dress which was pretty good.
This 'Base Backpackers' is 10 x better then Auckland! Auckland was literally a small room with no windows and two bunks. This one is an 'All Girls' room, and is open, has a glass sliding door with curtains, two separate rooms with two bunks in each, tables & chairs, its own shower & toilet, a kitchen and a heater! It feels like luxury! If only they were all like this!
Our roommates are all quite different, we have 'Ajah' (pronounced 'Asia') from Canada, she's our age and very much likes to party! Jenny, who is a shy but lovely German girl, and Laureen, a VERY loud, out going, crazy, party girl with BRIGHT pink hair. She's a pom! So we have a mixed bunch so far!
Anyway, after we settled in, Kristy & I went for a little walk around, and to buy some dinner/breakfast things. We got ham & avocado and made a sandwich for lunch! My goodness it was the most amazing thing I'd had in a while! There's not much in this holiday place, but we will check more of it out in the next few days.
When we got back, we watched another movie, and chatted to our roommates for a while. They were all going to the BBQ the hotel has every night and going out for 'Ladies' Night' but we are b*****ed. We went to the pub next door and grabbed a chicken pizza to share, but it was a disappointment. Not much topping for the price we paid. We did get a drink tho, so that's our alcohol for the next few days!
Not too sure what we are doing tomorrow, it's supposed to be raining the two days we are here, which is very depressing. Maybe try to find something indoors to do!
