The frequency of this blog is likely to vastly increase over the next few weeks, as our plans finally unfold in leaving Sydney. Tuesday morning shall see Chloe and myself fly up to Cairns and from there stop at various destinations along the gold coast. Although I will be reletively sad to leave Sydney and the people I have come to know, the time has come to go elsewhere. I can have no complaints in how the city has treated me and what I have done since arriving here. Chloe and I have done everything we set out to do and the only things not ticked off the list are the Sydney harbour bridge climb and going inside the opera house. We didn't feel the need to pay extra money to pursue things that in the end didn't really matter too much to us.
Sydney has indeed been a fantastic ride, which culminated in my final weekend of going to a party and watching the rugby. Sydnham was the basis of this house party, a small suburb close to the airport which seemed nice enough despite the noise from planes flying above. Having not had a big night for a while, it took only 4 or 5 beers to make me mildly intoxicated. Overall a pretty good way to spend my final weekend in Sydney. Being something of a rugby fanatic, I was also extremely excited to go to the opening Waratah's game against the Western Force with a few guys from work. We were treated to an Israel Folau hat-trick, contributing to a 43-21 win for Sydney's only professional rugby union side. I have to say that the one downside was the general atmosphere I witnessed at the Allianz arena. Despite an attendance of around 25,000, the fans were generally very subdued which I have noticed at a number of Australian sporting events. I am hoping to go to an AFL game, so I hope the spectators there can prove me wrong!
So capping off the weekend this way really was a fantastic way to say goodbye to the city I've become so settled in. I can really understand why many people look to settle down here, it is not surprising that the population is set to double within the next ten years. There is a young, vibrant buzz to the place, creating a diverse and exciting vibe in a city where there is so much to do. And let us not forget the vast array of beaches coupled with the excellent weather. Despite this, I have to remind myself that the purpose of my trip to Australia was to travel. That is now what we must do. It is time to see the coast and beyond!
The picture I have selected comes from Featherdale Wildlife Park where Chloe and myself went to last weekend. It was a day trip which included the blue mountains with unfortunately very dull weather. The best part of the trip turned out to be the wildlife park and in particular feeding wallabies and posing with a koala as you can see.
