Fairly quick entry as I'm knackered and about to go to bed. We spent the day going to a few different attractions, the first of which was the Hyde Park barracks museum, a place that historically held deported British convicts. Being the history nerd that I am, I found it very interesting indeed, learnt a fair bit about Governor Macquarie who is a key figure in the history of developing Sydney and bringing various social and cultural reform to the city. I can now finally pronounce his name after Chloe has drummed it into my head allday. Next we went to Sydney tower at the top of Westfield shopping centre. Pretty good view from 302m high, though the ash cloud, as a consequence of the forest fires didn't help, oh well, we were warned…. The pass we bought the other day also enables us to nab a free fish and chip meal from the Blue Fish restaurant in Darling harbour, it would have been rude not to and made a nice change from squashed sandwiches. As we were only about 20m away we thought maybe we should check out the Maritime museum, which again had some interesting elements to it. The best of which was going onto a replica of Captain Cook's famous ship the 'endeavor' as well as a submarine colorfully named 'HMAS vampire.' Upon departing this vessel, as well as the attached battleship, I was kicking myself at the fact I had not asked more questions to the guides on board, who I realised by that point had themselves served on such ships, what stories they would have to tell. After a hectic day I received a phone call about a Telesales job, funnily enough it was the same company who called me last week, and who I told I was only available for 3 months, at which point I was told they needed a 6 month commitment and therefore I did not qualify. After applying again and received the phone call I immediately said 6 months to a year I would be in Sydney, which I would say is a white lie…. Because who knows, we may still be here by then and I have my confidence that it would be in their best interests to employ me for that time. I have an interview at 10am tomorrow so hopefully I'll get the job, its literally 5 minutes walk from where we live with basic wage plus commission, so I can finally start spending, and join the gym across the road to get back in shape. But anyway one step at a time, make sure I get the job first!
