January seems to have flown at the pace of Usain Bolt! The last few weeks has, as always seen the opportunity to take part in some of the fantastic activities that Sydney has to offer. The pick of these would in no doubt have to be the surfing lesson I had at Manly beach. Having only surfed once before, (if you can call trying and failing numerous times to stand on a board in the waters of the English Chanel surfing) I was cautiously pessimistic. I proved however, to be pleasantly surprised, surpassing my expectations by even standing up a few times. If you've ever surfed before I'm sure you know how tough it is, and how much you must remember when ascending onto the board. Thats before you have even considered at what point the wave will hit you! But as I say it generally went quite well and I am confident that with a little more practice I may be able to master it. Hopefully when we travel up the coast I may get the chance to do it again.
Yes thats right, our travel plans have become a lot more formulated within the last week or two. Exciting times! We were first looking at the possibility of a campervan relocation. By relocation I mean some company's will do incredible deals where they ask you to drive a campervan to another destination within a certain time period sometimes for as little as $1 per day. Of course you have to factor in paying for petrol and the camp sites you would stay at every night. Theres also the clear problem of time constraints, causing long hours of driving and thus less oppourtunity to actually go to the places you want to go to! It is for this reason that we have been leaning towards paying for a Greyhound bus pass and staying in cheap hostels and hotels. This will only be a little more expensive and a lot less stress! The great news is that it looks as though we might well get to see the gold coast, Melbourne, Adelaide and Ayrs rock as well as throwing in a short trip to Thailand on the way back! We'll see how it goes, but looks like some great times ahead!
In other news, its actually Australia day, though you wouldn't know it in our flat. So soon after new year makes it seem of little importance to myself and Chloe. We couldn't really be bothered to get anything organised to celebrate one of the colonies celebrating its freedom. The one good thing to come out of passing over this crazy place to the Irish and convicts is that tomorrow I will now get a day off work! Truth be told I'm more excited about Mata joining Man United right now, than Australia Day!
