Hi Folks-dear god if you only knew how long its taken to get on the internet!! Powercut after powercutut!!! Nightmare. Well we are just on way to pay our debts as we owe money everywhere due to us not being able to work out the Ugandan shilling!! Had a lovely slap up meal then realised we couldnt even pay for the starter!! moving on..after a full belly we went to church and sang with the locals. We were truely moved by the sevice and proved to be very thought provoking. After asking forgiveness offf the lord for our discrepency with shillings we then sang our little hearts out. However the lored was not as forgiving as we had once thought and a bum clenching dash back to the guest house was a must..... Monday proved to be the pivitol part of our trip. Nothing could have prepared us for what we were about to see. It waas grim and that is all you need to know. Mbararaa hospital has 600 beds....1 nurse to 60 patients who earns 115 dollars a month. pataients are accompanied by attendents who are family members who carry out all cares. Today we started on the surgical ward were we both did dressings on the most horrendous wounds you could ever imaagine. After poring hydrogen peroxide in the wonds to clean and bathing gauze in metronidozole the minimaal dressing is secured with minimal tape. Flys are an aadded bonus to the dressing pack and trolleys come complete with rust. Aseptic technique is a foriegn language here. Patients do not express any pain here and choose to sit in silence with the most horrific wounds you could ever imagine. Cutting this short as another powercut is due..we are back tomorrow and will log in and tell you more...thanks for staying tuned! Al and Jane xxxxx

Julie Loving the blog Al. Guess you'll never complain about our hospitals when you get back - NOT. Good luck to you both and stay positive. xx
Sue Darby I think it is commendable what you are doing. Makes us all reflect and appreciate what we have in our lives and not take anything for granted.
Becky Wood Errr did i mention you owe me some Ugandan shilling! Its a mates rates monthly fee for friendship! Bum clenching in foreign countries is always a joy.......spare pair of pants is a must! They wont let you back in the country if you s*** yourself more than 5 times.....think on and stay away from lamb curries! Anyway, getting to the serious stuff! It sounds grim and witnessing such poverty first hand is a massive shock to anyones system.....especially to us Westerners, who live life so comfortably but complain about it anyway! Sounds like you are doing an amazing job so far. Keep blogging! Love Bec x
Kerry Oh my God! Tears all the way! That sounds horrendous and heartbreaking. To withstand such pain without a murmur just shows you that they know its not worth complaining. It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job girls and its hard to imagine what you're seeing, it must be dreadful. Wish I could send Billy out there for a week and maybe the £70 trainers wouldn't seem quite so appealing! Take care xx p.s I was talking to Mavis yesterday Jane she is so proud of you xx
