Surprise...Yes we've pinched Merlin laptop. Merlin is a GP in Oxford and is currently sharing the guest house with us in Uganda. He is doing research and returns to the UK on Wednesday.A really nice chap who washed our dirty dishes on the first night of being here (embarrassed...very). Our story continues...after a 10hr flight our plane finally ended in Entebbe at 22.15. On collecting our luggage and paying for a visa we headed to find our driver to take us to our 5* accommodation...NOT!!!!The flight motel was what can only be described as an unfinished car park. Jane's face was a picture. In fact I think I could have parked a double decker bus in her mouth, it was open that wide. Once inside it didn't disappoint ...it was like Beirut! Our Bell boy (dream on!) lead us to our swanky plush hotel suite (I think not!) and turned on the TV. YES we had a TV (kerchiiing)... can you believe it? No Corrie or Xfactor so an early night for us (23.30). Our designated driver Richard arrived prompt (6am) for our 8hr drive to Mbarara. We had our continental breakfast (not) and hit the road. The journey took us through Kampala along a dust track stopping at the equator for a photo, much to the delight of the local children who gave us a cheery wave. Believe you me the bumpy ride plays havoc with your bladder. Richard kindly stopped at a 'rest room'...We opened the door and was greeted with a cess pit that brought tears to my eyes due the smell and the position I had to acquire (thank god for yoga) and from Al laughing at my dilemma. We were both in awe of the stunning scenery that greeted us. Zebras were ten a penny in the fields, a stark contrast to the cows and sheep we see at home. Arriving at the guest house we were surprised to see only what we could describe as ugly storks, commonly known as Maribout stork. These are similar in character to our crows in the UK. After unpacking we headed into town for some essentials. Our Story continues tomorrow-highlights include a church visit with gospel choir...trots...and going for a 'lavish' meal and not having enough shillings in our purse to pay the bill. Stay tuned folks life in prison is cold! Alex and Jane xxxx
