Hi folks...well we both have had a busy weekend. Friday was an emotional day when we visited Ibandu the childrens orphange. We arrived early to find that a week old baby had been abandoned that night at the gates of the orphanage. The baby boy was beautiful and brought a tear to both our eyes. The sister of the home showed us round and introduced us to the children who were aged from 0-5. The were very well cared for and were sitting outside singing songs. The gifts that we collected on the unit were greatly received and the smiles and noise from the children brought us great joy... We felt like Santa had come to visit!!! After an emotional tour round we left for our final weekend in Mbarara. We visited Lake Mburo safari park on Saturday...we took a boat down the lake and saw many crocodiles, hippo, and birds. Jane and I were taking in the sights and having a real relaxing morning on the lake.....WRONG!!!!! Unknown to us the boat was over a hippo swimming under the lake...I dont think Jane and I have ever been lost for words when we saw this hippo rise out of the water and start aiming for the boat...even the guide looked worried!! He turned on the engine to frighten it away while we both took pens from our rucksacks to write our will!!! Such Drama on a peacefull Saturday morning. Anyway we are both here to tell the tale plus a few grey hairs!!! Today we have taken a 5 hour car journey to Entebbe on our final leg of the trip. Mbarara hospital were very sad to see us go and we have promised to stay in touch. We are now in more comfortable surroundings ie...running water...clean beds...lights...and great food. We are planning to visit an orphanage for animals and the Botanical gardens while we are here. We fly from Entebbe on Friday morning at 5am. I hope to do at least one more entry on this blog before we return to the UK...Jane and I would just like to say a MASSIVE thank you to all our family and friends for the love and support you have given on this 3 week trip. Speak soon Alex and Jane xxxx
