Tuesday
Slept well surprisingly. Picked up 7 crays that we could keep out of the 5 pots we dropped. Then headed off. The seas had picked up overnight and so the plan was to get to port davy as quick as possible. Went via South Cape. Another rough and bumy ride. Had a breather half way then off again heading to Port Davy.
Anchored in Bond Bay which was a peaceful haven to what we had travelled through and boy was I glad to have arrived without falling down the stairs,
Then we loaded up in the dingys and went up the Davy river and up as far as we could to the gorge. On the way we passed a group from a tall ship that had come in the harbour that day and they seemed mainly young kids. The place was beautiful and it was where the original Piners had come to remove the huon pine further in land and float down the river and then off to england or Hobart. It had been a very busy settlement and we visited the settlement site and a pit where they had sawed the logs and a few graves all overgrown now. Also went up the creek to find where they had to go to get their fresh water. It is all very unspoilt and so quiet. It was a very damp overcast day so we missed out on seeing the mountains in all their glory.
Back to the boat up headed out to put out the cray pots. Alan and Lindsay took one of the two dingy's out and went trawling around the bay come back with a flathead and lost lots of bait.
I caught a beautiful irridescent fish with poisonous dorsal spines called and elephant shark and which is good eating. Mary caught a gummy and Kath or Graham a Port Jackson which we threw back as evidently not nice to eat
That night we just ate and ate crayfish seven big ones in all and were they nice plus a yummy salad and a bottle of Sav
Most memorable moment:Cruising up the Davy river gorge with the reflextions and the silence it was magic
