Wednesday
Bacon and eggs for brekky which was great but the weather had packed up over night so no crays in our pots. Again overcast and miserable.
Went to Bathurst Habour and anchored beside a jetty at Clyde Claytons place and old timer who lived for many years at this spot. Checked out his shack and climed a small hill in the wet blustery weather using my new climbing stick which is was a great help. Found out that night had a leech must have got me there - yukkkkk.
Toasted ham and cheese sandwiches and then off to tour Malelucea where there is a airstrip and also Denny King's place a famous old gentleman and his wife lived there and the place is still leased by his family and kept in the original condition.
Went in dingies up a river then a 10 min walk over the landing strip and to the bird hyde where we observed fire tail finches, green rosellas, robins and a orange bellied parrot. Marvelous...Going back in time to see the shack and how they used everything and kept themselves occupied in this beautiful but isolated place. A museum of sorts with art gallery of sorts a hot house fruit trees and vegies a great boat ramp and the old nissan hut was set up very nice including a piano huon pine carved chair woodstove bathrooms and bedrooms with painted wooden floors and old style wood heater.
Our captain decided to try for Spain bay for the night which is at the mouth of Port davy and it was quite rough going in. Upon discussion with Scotty they decided that the weather was deterioting and probably not the best spot for the night to anchor. Soooo we decided to return to Bond Bay which met traversing the wild seas which were increading. We had about 6-8 metre waves to contend with and we had a ride and a half and I can tell you I was holding on and glad it was only a short distance. The weather was not improving and was glad to be anchored at bond bay but it was slightly rougher than the previous evening.
That night we had tea about 8.30 of curry and rice and sticky date pudding and icecream plus a bottle of red. Bed at 9.30 but it was a wild rocky old night.
Most memorable moment : Finding a leech on me when went to bed
