(my photo has nothing to do with this entry..i just adore this photo hehe)
so before i went into the thanksgiving week i was kinda sad...i was going to be alone for a few days before leaving for arkansas...but I remember saying to God, "I trust you." (i didn't necessairly mean it 100%) but what was amazing was that God brought people and good memories into my few days that i was in gallup. I don't remember what i did that weekend but i remember that sunday quite well..
Lighthouse on sunday was GREAT. The service was hilarious and after the service i got a chance to eat with pastor greg and his wife robyn. I had the opportunity to tell them my whole story (during part of it robyn teared it up...it was a powerful moment). Then I told them about the upcoming week I had in Arkansas and they were so excited for me. At one point Robyn said, "It would be just like God to have him be Christian." We had an awesome time at lunch...it is always inspiring for me to tell my story to people. It helps me to become even more excited.
Later that evening during my class Jim and Larry became SOO concerned for me. They told me they were all going to pray for me and Larry said he was going to call some international prayer phoneline (where people will pray for you all over the world). I was SO TOUCHED. I could not believe that these 2 men cared about me soo much. It warmed my heart to think that i was so loved. Larry was sooo loving and super concerned. He told me to think as myself as a, "pioneer," and not a, "traitor..." as i begin this journey with God.....he is so uplifting! They deeply talked with me and focused on me for most of the class. I don't mean to write that to show that I enjoyed the attention due to some egotistical desire...but to show that these men of God were very concerned for me....to find people that genuinely care and want the best for others is rare to find in today's age.....their concern, words, and love meant the world to me. i hope one day they will read this and know!
after class sharon texted me and told me to come to the thanksgiving dinner at stronghold...i was at the laundry mat and i turned right around and went to the dinner. it was nice. it was a wonderful sunday. that night i got a $5 little ceaser pizza, a diet coke, and rented pirates of carribbean and enjoyed a restful night. Thank you God for a peaceful night. thank You.
the next day i remember sleeping in, writing in my journal, going to the gym and then to the final bookclub meeting. bookclub was a blast and i told the girls about my upcoming trip. they were all fascinated and sharon cracked some hilarious jokes. she told me to come over the next day so that she could cook for me. (also during the bookclub she told me that she thought i was beautiful and that i didn't need stickers on my face...). those comments meant the world to me :)
Tuesday was also an interesting day. I went over to Denise's house and we cooked a Thanksgiving meal for 20 people! We prepared the food and placed them in styrofoam containers to pass out to the homeless and needy. The best part of this night was that it took us 2.5 HOURS TO FIND 20 PEOPLE TO FEED BECAUSE PEOPLE ACTUALLY TURNED DOWN THE THANKSGIVING MEALS!!! WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!???? Literally, about 10 people turned down meals...they turned down me, denise, danny, and nick. now if anyone sees this group congregrated..we are clearly the LEAST threatning group on the planet. i don't know if i will really understand why people turned down the food..did they think we poisoned it?? who knows. The most wonderful part about passing out food to the homeless was the expression on the faces of the people who got the food. it was beautiful to see them smile and bless us as we blessed them! beautiful. they were so thankful. in particular i remember a man actually approaching our car because he knew we were giving out something. the hope in his eyes and the smile across his face when he recieved the meal is etched deeply in my mind. Another man who touched my heart was one that actually came looking for our van (we had already given him a meal earlier that night) to get extra food for his friends! It was God that brought us back together to meet him
Another stellar moment from the night (that may just have reigned supreme) was during our drive around Walgreens. We saw a man covered in rags, sitting on rags, and had an emtpy guitar case open for money. We were CERTAIN that this was a man in NEED. wouldn't you agree by the simply description given above???? we approached him with meal in hand, thinking we would need to go back for atleast another meal for him.....but the man..DID NOT TAKE OUR FOOD...??????!!!!!! WTF??!!!!!!! WHY??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i will never understand. did i say dressed in, sitting on, rags? on a cold cold dark night? i did. hahahahahahahahahahaha
