I am so excited about this new blog site! I was using the gmail blog before but it did not have as many features as this one. I want to thank Bonnie Harvey...an olddd friend from Oxfam america..i was on her facebook page and stumbled upon her blog..and realized it would be a perfect blog for me as well =o) I will be able to update pictures and videos on this site...yay!
There are some great memories from Friday afternoon that I must write now before I go to bed:
1) Orlan Dale has a recent fascination with Alice in Wonderland. Everything he draws are Alice characters and everything he quotes is from that movie. For those of you that have watched it, the evil queen of hearts has minnions who all have freakishly large abnormalities...the large nose, the fake chin, the bulbous stomach...
Orlan looks at me and says, "you look like you have fake boobs." in the most confident tone ever. as if it is perfectly true. i actually had to sit down to contain my laughter.hahahahhahahahahaahahha
i heart orlan
2) orlan climbing on a table and jumping on MY back (i had no idea he was going to jump on me) i just saw a flying 5 year old in the corner of my eye...hahaha
3) cyrell benally and orlan dale both painted my face on friday =) the kids had there 10 gold coins party and had the chance to paint my face...so those two did...my face looked awful...but i loved it! i also let cyrell paint the faces of some of the kids....he did an AMAZING JOB. i got it on camera....i will upload those pics....on here!
4) we were sitting in the gym and i was beside javin. now javin is a quiet kid...reallly really really shy...out of nowhere i heard a chipmunk voice..i looked beised me and saw javin. i asked him what he said and he made that same chipmunk voice...ashlyn who was sitting near us clarified for me what he was saying , "zip it, lock it, put it in your pocket." WHY DID HE START SAYIING THAT IN A CHIPMUNK VOICE I WILL NEVER KNOW. but oh my goodness it was hilarious. it was the most wonderful thing to hear. his confidence has grown so much....he cried everyday from august to about decemeber. but to see him now ...making chipmunk voices...hahahhahah we then continued to make chipmunk voices throughout the assembly. it rocked my world
5) BUBBLES. we had bubbles at our party and the KIDS LOVED IT. did they watch lion king? no. did they make their own necklace out of beads? only two did. Did they get their face painted? yes, that was popular. but what really rocked their world...BUBBLES ...cheap bubbles from wal mart...WOW. it takes so little to make a child happy...wow...
6) this was a moment that made me realize that kids can teach me more than adults can. cyrell was painting faces, after a while tasheena wanted to help cyrell. i told her that she could not (this is awful, but the girl cant really draw so i didnt want her painting the kids faces)...she asked again after a while and this time cyrell chimed in...
"its ok ms.singh tasheena can help"... i was humbled. what a wonderful thing to say.
7) kyren was saying my name repeatedly so i did the same to him..i did this while i was trying to get a few kids to feed the fish...when i turned around i saw his face squished and he was mimicking me "mr.johnson!!!"
if only i had a camera. his face had to be seen =) that kid rocks my world. the things he does
8) out of nowhere landon shirley has begun to kiss me on the cheek. it has only happened twice but i have no idea from where it stemmed. both times i have told him he can not do that...but i have a feeling that the boy may not be getting the love and positive attention he needs at home....i hope he is. i love that boy.
9)hugging shauntai clyde for about 5 minutes straight. we just held each other. i needed the hug. and i think she did too =)
10) I was standing on the table getting some paint down..some of the kids looked up and said ,"Ms singh you look like a princess!" some of the other kids said, "someone has to save you" , "who is the prince?" so many questions arose...and i finally said ,"yes someone must save me!"
i swear, out of nowhere kids starting getting up saying, "i will save you!" or "i am the dragon!" it was this MAGICAL moment. all the kids were eventually out of their seats acting as if they were a part of some mythological story in which dragons, evil, princessess, fairy godmothers, and princes' reside...
5 year olds are amazing.
people should strive to be more like them.
