It was pretty exciting when we eventually arrived in Australia though we thought we'd landed in the wrong country! It was really cold, and it only got colder as time went by! Melody and Alice met us at the airport, it was great to see them again, and great to be picked up as well, the first pick up to actually be there for us!! For the first few nights we stayed at Alice's house (thanks to Tim and Judy for letting us stay and looking after us so well!) in the pool house! We felt like we were in the OC! We got our first real Australian experience while staying in the poolhouse-Possoms on the roof!!! They sounded crazy, they make this weird hissing sound and they fight with each other, it was quite funny.
Alice took us into the city for our first look at Melbourne, we had a walk round and went to Federation Square and the art gallery and we got a tram! Blake did a very good job as a tour guide too, driving us round the city and explaining different things to us, it was great! We both had to go shopping for hoody's because we were so cold, crazy! We had our first night out too, we went to see Alice's friend in a band which was good and discovered that in Australia they don't sell beer in pints!
We had a tour round the MCG, it was brilliant, it got us very excited for the cricket. We got to walk on the pitch and look round the museum and members area, we didn't get to go in the dressing rooms though which we were a bit disappointed about but it was still a very good tour. The stadium is really impressive, its huge, it was good looking around before the cricket as well because we got to see where we wanted to sit!
Christmas Eve we moved over to Melody's Mam and Dad's house in Williamstown (thanks to John and Gail for letting us stay and looking after us so well!) for the Chew's Christmas Eve party. The party was great, we sang carols and Melody and Phil did a great job on the drums and triangle! Then it was Christmas Day!!!! It was pretty weird not being home for Christmas but the Chew's made it really enjoyable for us. We certainly didn't get the experience we were expecting of a hot Christmas down under, it was FREEZING!!! Apparently the coldest Christmas since 1935, great!!!! Melody and Alice and parents had got us presents which was so kind and was lovely being able to open things on the morning, especially when we weren't expecting to. Christmas dinner was good too, Phil made Yorkshire puddings which went down a storm with the Aussies!!
Boxing day we moved over to Melody and Lyndon's house (the Pumpkin Palace!) in St Kilda, thanks to you guys for looking after us too! It was so good staying in houses after we'd been travelling for a long time, comfy beds and home comforts, it was great. The Pumpkin Palace has the comfiest sofa bed ever made too!
