Take the MRT to Boon Lay, then get a bus from there. As zoos go, this is a pretty good zoo, particularly for the monkeys, which have a huge space to roam, and are free to swings through trees. What I don't like about this zoo, is the animals in cages, particularly the big species (lions, tigers, polar bears, rhinos), I found the polar bears upsetting, because he just lay there in 30+ heat, with only huge fans to cool him down, the enclosures weren't a good enough size for these large animals, and compared to the monkeys it was pretty poor and sometimes the enclosures were over-populated like the baboons. For $10, you could have a photo taken with an orangutan family, it was horrible, they were feed to sit there while these children stood underneath them, and if they dared to move they were shouted out. There was a really cute baby though, who was really inquisitive, he was adorable. For $6, you could also have a ride on an elephant, these 2 elephants were subjected to this "ride" where they followed a track, they must have been so bored.
There's not really many food places- KFC, Ben & Jerry's and a restaurant (which is probably expensive)- the fast food places were slightly cheaper.
The zoo also has a Night Safari, where you have a guided tour of another part of the zoo at night, with all the nocturnal animals.
It's a good day out for all the family, a little unbearable in the heat.
