Today was the pre-arranged trip to Jurong Bird Park, we took the MRT to Boon Lay, then got the #251 bus. We were provided with free entry.
The place of call was the penguins. They were amazing and I could quite easily watch them over and over, they were so graceful in the water and were incredibly fast swimmers, trying to take a photo was near enough impossible. We watched the Birds and Buddies show at the ampitheatre. The opening act was awesome, about 30 pink flamingoes walking 2-by-2 down the path, covering the stage area. The costume characters annoyed me, who unneccessarily announced a new act. Fair enough, it's for the kids benefit but it was annoying. The stage show was a good opportunity to see what the animals could do. Like the Zoo, they also have a "pay $10 to have your photo taken" policy, which angers me because they use the animals to gain a profit, to make them sith there while some kids screams and scares the poor thing.
In the park, there's over 8,000 birds of about 600 species. Most of the birds are sadly, lined up in cages, but there also som walk-in avaries like at Sentosa. The Lory Loft aviary, contained thousands of lories and could feed them for $2. Via bridges you could walk over a replica rainforest. The Waterfall aviary, contained the world's tallest man made waterfall at 30 metres high nestled in the middle of the rainforest. The final show we saw was the Bird of Prey show, in which vultures, eagles, kites and owls were demonstrated. The kites were really impressive, they could soar in the trees and spot any food that was out.
