Captain Tom's Voyage of Discovery
Howdy!
Well today is my last full day in Singapore. After breakfast of Ritz crackers and some weird juice with 17 different fruit + vegetables in it, I headed off to Singapore Zoo - the big brother of the Night Safari. What makes the Zoo so better than your run of the mill Zoo is that they don't have any cages of massive fences trapping the animals in. What separates you from the animals are cleverly disguised moats. This is pretty cool as you can actually get close enough to take some pictures.
After I good few hours walking around the Zoo, I went back in to the City to grab some lunch. Cue 'look at me, I am a tourist moment number 1': Everything is really clean in Singapore with huge fines for littering etc Some times, it can be too clean. After deciding to eat at a shiny, new food court (an up market hawker centre) I walked smack bang into what WASN'T an open door but in fact a window next to the open door. On my way out I noticed a rather obvious hand print which I had created.
My evening has been spent at the Kong Meng San Phor Ark See Monastery. This is the largest Buddhist temple in Singapore and has the largest Buddha in SE Asia. My lonely planet book told me to get bus 410 to the temple. Not that helpful as there was a 'red' 410 and a 'green' 410. After studying the bus rout for a good few minutes, a friendly local lady asked if I was going to the temple. She then told me that she too was going there and that she would show me which bus to take. I was a bit disappointed to find out the temple had closed for the day but the woman gave me a brief guided tour around the complex.
Well that's pretty much it for now. I fly out to Australia tomorrow night. If, like Jamie, you want to find out what a Singapore Sling tastes off, search for a recipe on the web. Its basically a nastly mixture of Gin and brandy. If you can't be bothered doing that, drink some cough medicine - they taste exactly the same.
That's all for now,
TOM x
