Captain Tom's Voyage of Discovery
Howdy doody! Well I thought it was about time I let you know what I have been up to since I left Manchester on Monday:
The flight down to London was...well...a flight down to London - no point wasting time writing about that. The 13 hour flight to Singapore was as fun as a 13 hour flight could be. Was fortunate enough to be sitting next to a veteran backpacker on the plane. She had spent the passed 5 months in Oz/Nz/Fiji but had to fly home early to re-sit an accountancy exam. After working her ass off, she was told that following a re-mark, she had actually passed!! So instead of sulking about it, she booked herself on the next flight to Sydney. She (Holly) has given me some good tips on where to go (including the neighbors tour!!!!)
Got into Singapore Changi airport at about 7.30 local time (12.30 am BST) and after chucking my rucksack onto a trolley (not in the mood to carry it) I followed the walkway to t'other terminal to get the MRT (a cross between the met in town and the underground in London). However, I don't think the walkway was designed for trolleys as I seemed to get lots of strange looks from all the airport staff.
I found my hostel ok - that's a lie, i got very, very lost. Even a taxi driver couldn't find it. After a nap I decided to hit the town. My only stop on my first evening was to the Boat Quay area. I managed to get some ok night shots of all the big skyscrapers and chilled out on the river side. After all the couples started to annoy me, I headed back to my hostel.
Slept in until lunch time (stupid jet lag) on Wednesday and decided to go to Orchard road. This is where all the shops are and I mean ALL the shops (Armani, Gucci, D&G etc, etc.) Not a good place for backpackers as the temptation to splurge out is v. big. After a few hours of serious window shopping I headed off to China Town for a quick look around the Heritage Center/museum. Then back to the Quay area to grab a 'bum boat' tour up the river and to the harbor - lots of sky scraper pictures! By this point my tummy was starting to rumble so a quick trip on the MRT took me to Little India - CURRY TIME! After a good feed I went back to the Boat Quay to relax under the stars but the couples started to annoy me again so back to the hostel!
Sorry about the long entry, I will try and brake the rest down. Will try and get some pictures up before I leave Singapore.
Lots of Love, TOM
