It only took an hour to fly from Singapore to Kuching. Borneo and here we are in a lovely hotel called the 360. Hotel Tower B. There are two towers situated in between a shopping centre and Resturants. The facilities here are great they have laundry rooms which was handy for us as we had been travelling for about 2 weeks and was getting a bit desperate. So that evening I did four loads of washing and drying and it was good to have clean smelling clothes and in I left the ironing for Lee to do the next morning (he has to do his share of the domestic side). The swimming pool was situated on the 4th floor and was nicely decked with good furniture and immaculatly clean pool. There was also a small well equipped gym which we said we would have a go at.
Kuching meaning cat, is the capital off Sarawak and although it presents itself as a city is very small and does not enjoy the mayhem you see from other cities. It has a wonderful water front that comes alive at night, with boat trips offering sun set cruises. There are plenty of stalls offering light snacks and refreshments with plenty seating for you to sit and watch the world go by. Beyond the water front is the vibrant Chinatown which is more alive at night. With its wonderful quaint little shops where time seems to have stood still. There are a few things we have noticed in Kuching that has surprised us and that is everyone speaks really good English, most things are written in English and the city is extremely clean.
There is lovely pub/bistro next to the hotel which serves the most amazing tasty food, the portions are huge but the best thing of all they serve draught Strongbow cider, so it's been hard to keep me out of there as I shouldn't be drinking. The reason being on Monday when we was at Singapore airport I bought some L'Oreal moisturiser. I used it a couple of times and it brought my face out in a rash so am taking anti histamine. Woke @ 3am to face time chat with son Nick as he had been a bit low and we had not chatted for sometime.
Day 2 - 25th Sep
After a goods night sleep we decided to stay at this hotel for a few more days as it had everything we needed so we checked in for 3 more nights.
We decided today to have a little go in the gym, swim in the pool and relax which we did, we then just chilled by the pool. I wanted to get my blogging up todate so continued to stay in room and do as much as I could. We got the shuttle bus into Kuching city centre, had a walk around then got shuttle bus back and just stayed a watched a film in room. Rash on face wasn't any better, hope it was going to improve by next day. Had a lovely FaceTime chat with daughter Sam as she was at home after not being well.
Day 3 - Wed 26th Sept
Rash not much better, eyes all swollen up, looks more like hives than rash, but going to preserve as sure it will start settling soon. Not much done again today other than, blogging, catching up with messages and chillin.
Day 4 - Thurs 27th Sept
Still woke with swollen eyes and hives on face and still hoping it will settle soon. Look awful going for breakfast but nobody knows me so just have to get on with it. After breakfast we did same thing chilled for a bit then went gym, pool and relaxed. Finished a bit more blogging walked across to
shopping mall, had dinner and retired to room again and watched film. Decided to move on to Kota Kinabalu so looked at flights they were cheap so booked to leave on Sunday, from there we will book all the tours Rain Forest, see Urangutans and what we missed here we will do when we return as our flight is back here to Singapore. Booked another 2 nights.
Day 5 - Fri 28th Sept
Seriously looked bad this morning eyes were all puffed again face not healing at all so knew I had to go find a pharmacy and get some anti histamine a. We got the shuttle bus and found a pharmacy, it was something out of the Gremlins film, more like an old curiosity shop, and the pharmacist look like the same Chinese guy, came out behind a counter with a little whispy beard and small round glasses. He understood very clearly what I wanted so was relieved to get some anti histamines. We got the shuttle bus back to the hotel and was a bit peckish so decided to get something to eat in Chinese restaurant. We ordered what we thought was a simple meal but the size of the portions were huge. It was embarrassing to see all this food in front of us as we knew we couldn't eat it, crispy duck, Thai chicken and fried rice. We tried to eat as much as we could in the end the waiter came over and asked us we would like to take it away, of course we said yes as we are just so polite. when we left we found the nearest bin and put it In there. We decided to go and get our hair cut, it was only £10 for the two of us and was ok. Went back to our lovely room and chilled out again. Had a nice long chat on face time with little sister Cath.
Day 6 - Sat 29th Sept
As we was leaving early in the morning we decided to get packing done and if any washing needed doing we could get it done today. Didn't do much just chilled by pool again and decided to have a bit of lunch and drink in Alfresco's we just ordered a combo but when it came out it was huge, we tried to eat as much as we could but didn't want too eat much as we was looking forward to going into Chinatown later and eating there. We went back to room had rest and was going to catch the 6pm shuttle bus into the city. My face got worse and the hives seemed to have broke out even more. Surely after 5 days I still wouldn't be having a reaction to a face cream that I used 6 days ago. I googled allergic reaction to face cream and one site recommended using hyrdrocortsine I had a small tube in my make up bag and washed my face and put some on. I could feel the difference straight so asked Lee if he could go into the city on the 6pm shuttle to get some more. He was happy to go off on his own. Anyway 2 hours later he still wasn't back, I had done the washing and finished the packing but the Help movie was on the telly so watched that. He came back just after 8.30 with no cream and anti histamines tablets as the pharmacies were all shut. But he did have a tale to tell about a couple he met on the shuttle bus about the same age as us doing the same thing, they had just come back from Kota Kinabalu. They invited him to go for a drink with him and he had a great chat with them about their travels and where they had been. It was such a shame we had been there all week and we was leaving in the morning, but we got info from them so maybe catch up with them somewhere else.
Day 7 - Sun 30th Sept
So why go to Borneo and stay in the same place and not go anywhere and see anything:-
We was supposed to be in Australia now but cut our trip short because we found the accommodation and tours expensive so we felt one month would be enough.
We liked the hotel, the room was comfortable, the Internet was very good so we used this time as an opportunity to catch up on messages, emails, blogging and looking at tours and things for our month stay in Borneo. The week just went so quick and because I had a nasty allergy on my face I didn't feel 100% all the time.
But we are leaving today having made the decision that what we may have missed here we will come back to as we have a return flight to Singapore from Kuching.
We we are leaving Kuching today and flying to Kota Kinabalu.
