After a late night of chatting it was wonderful to have a sleep in and even more wonderful to wake up to see a smiling face peeking over the cot at us!
The plan today was to take it easy but reshuffling our weekend schedule to fit in a tour of the Warner bros studios on Sunday meant we headed off to Oxford today.
It was a brief trip, as we only had parking for 2hrs, but in that time we managed to walk around the historic town (and even through some of the more modern parts, which were quite a contrast, and even a bit London looking).
The funniest part of the 'Simon and Lizzie Walking Tour of Oxford' wasn't the random oxford facts (which were mostly made up anyway) but when we walked through a gate at Christ Church to use a bench so we could sit down and eat our picnic.
We wondered at the time why we were being stared down by 19yr olds in their croquet get-up (like we were the odd-ones in this scene!). Turns out we were kind of trespassing, security kindly informed us later that the gate should have been locked and the area was reserved for fellows to get away from the students. Which begs the question - was he telling us porkys or were the brats who clearly dobbed on us not meant to be there either?
Either way, we outlasted them when it counted - it rained of course (who were the tough ones now!) and got to finish our picnic before the lovely old guy came to shoo us commoners on.
On our way back to the car we stopped in at Balliol College, the oldest college in Oxford, and had a cuppa. Once you're actually inside these places (legitimately this time, we paid our £2 each) it's amazing to see how quiet it is. Each place really is in its own little bubble.
So there ended our brief, though satisfying, visit to Oxford. Back at the Moore Mansion, us girls picked fresh strawberries and rocket from the glasshouse and Lizzie cooked a baked chicken. We also caught up with Lizzie's folks who'd just returned from Paris with Phil and Sherrol (little bizarre how that had all worked out, timing wise).
The boys (minus Mitch) had manned up in their suits earlier (Simon proudly showing off his name tag) and headed off to the members area of Lord's for a 20-20 match. Assuming they're having a good time. Haven't heard from them...
