Today was the day. The game we had all been waiting for, oh, and we had to dress up. *gulp*
We were set to walk the Fan Trail, (second time for me) to Eden Park and dress up in the process as this was the big game we all wanted to see. So Chris, Michelle and Jacqueline went out in the morning for some party bits and when they got back we all hurried about getting ready.
Now, they had primarily gone out for English stuff so didn't want to get me exactly the same as I had told them I was going to be wearing my Welsh shirt, so I ended up with a few bits the same as them, Glasses, Rose etc, before deciding on dressing up too, but not wanting to wear an English thing, what was left? Ah yes,…
…Jacqueline's pink, polka-dotted, fleece lined, Onesie with a picture of a Cat on the breast with the word 'Purrrrrrrfect' underneath it and Dale's 70's Black Affro wig.
Why the hell not 'eh?
Believe me, it wasn't a good look and I'm ashamed to say I looked like the not too distant cousin of Kathy Burke from 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' - however, life is short, so if I must make a fool of myself I'd rather it be on the other side of the world.
Not content with just looking like an idiot, I did what every person does when they get the added bonus of a giant bubble making toy, and decided to run up Queen St in Auckland, in between the cars of traffic, in my pink onesie and affro wig, blowing bubbles and getting 'honked' and cheered as I went.
I don't know what came over me, but all I can say I learnt from the experience is, "don't wear a thermal top under a fleeced lined onesie and go for a jog." 'Hot' isn't the word.
Once we were in the stadium we decided the boys would sit together has they were all dressed in bowler hats, smoking pipes, braces and round glasses and Jacs and Mish would sit together as they were wearing the same thing too: England tops, wigs, roses, glasses, pom poms and big underpants over their jeans that read: Crotch, Touch, Pause, Engage (well done to Darren for that one) I was in he same stand as Mish and JAcs, so arranged to meet them at half time and we actually ended up staying standing at the back for the second half as it was raining outside and the view was just as good from there and we could all be together too (sitting on my own wearing my outfit made me look even ODDER!)
(oh yea, before I forget we also saw the SAME Welsh man AGAIN, that we had seen in Franz Josef and Queenstown a couple of weeks ago…..he is DEFINITELY stalking us now.)
Standing at the back of the stadium watching the second half was excruciating - England were appalling and it was really looking like Scotland were going to win, so in an attempt to lighten the mood, Michelle started to blow bubbles, which were actually making it all the way through the crowd and over the pitch. People were turning around and smiling and cheering so we kept doing it. A few minutes later a worker came over to us and asked if we were the ones blowing bubbles (uh oh) we said yes and got ready to apologise when he said "Ok cool, one of the security guys radioed over and said that they were making it all the way across the pitch and to the other side of the stadium!!" - ARRGHHH Lol - brilliant!
England were starting to play better and more people were enjoying the bubbles so Michelle kept them coming! England scored a try, they had won, the game was over and we decided to go down to the front to blow more bubbles and see if we could get on the Telly box. On the way down loads of people kept saying to Michelle 'ah you're the bubble lady - good job - great idea'
It was bizarre but it seems everybody genuinely loved the bubbles. I can't get over how many people commented!
Meeting up with the guys later, we had to endure the train ride home (the onesie was definitely a bad idea) and then get back to the cars.
Totally knackered, it was most definitely, time for bed.
