Back into the work week and assigned cleaning of the elephant bomas (where the ellies sleep) before breakfast. Man these guys have big poos!
Joining George and Crispin (the handlers) to herd them through the bush to the park for their breakfast of vegetable scraps.
Today is the first day since being here that we've had cloud cover, making it very fresh. C'mon sun come out.
Up to the breeding program for cleaning and fresh water, well that was if the key hadn't been left at camp. Waiting, waiting, waiting - an hour & half later the key arrives. Mind you camp is only a short 5 minute drive T.I.A - this is Africa!
Efron brought up the key in the ute with the chopped up cow body parts - as repulsive as the smell and sight is, I'm fascinated!
The only morning I didn't bring my camera with me and they feed the cow parts to the lions. Oh well there will be more opportunities. Note to self take camera every where, every session...
Getting our creative side flowing, a group of us were assigned to behaviour enrichment which is making toys for the cubs out of raw bush materials, mainly elephant poo! I made a very stylish "poo acacia Christmas tree" and wedged it between the wood in their platforms. After eating Sam's impala and elephant poo boat, demolishing Ticha's excellent poo giraffe, Paza and Penya made way towards my poo tree. Penya was very keen having a play with it which quickly toppled by the weight of the poo and a paw push. The acacia branch was gnawed on and the ellie poo licked up - mmm deeelicious!
Our afternoon routine of taking Laili and Lewa for their afternoon walk. It's a great way to finish off the day.
