Schenck Adventures
Hey everyone! How are you all doing? Boy, we have been sorta busy lately, we haven't had much time for writing these entries. Adam's really not this angry in real life, I just think this picture is funny (to find out why, see untitled photo album). Uncle Jeff, you are crazy! I love your spanish- maybe I can learn a few things from you when we get home =) Well, life is good. We are still happy and chugging away with life here. We just found out the other day that the girl we are living with (Edith) is going to be leaving to go to a different city to teach. I guess she decided she wanted to live in a bigger city, so she's going to Guadalajara. (The other girl that used to live with us- Lisa, has already moved out with her boyfriend, so it's been just the 3 of us living in the house)So, this means that another teacher will be coming this Sunday to replace her. We have not heard anything about this new teacher that will be moving in with us, except that he's male. That's it. So we are a little nervous cuz we don't know what to expect- he could be a crazy little 18 year old or like a grumpy 75 year old. We have no idea. I just e-mailed the lady who would know that information (a high up lady with culturalingua in charge of hiring teachers), so hopefully she'll e-mail me back. This other woman, Edith was so easy to live with because she was quiet and pretty much just kept to herself. It'll be interesting to see what this new guy is like.
Other than that, there's really nothing new going on. I updated our pictures from the last couple of weekends, and also put some pictures that were still on our camera of friends and family back home just for fun. As you'll see, we saw a ton of catholic churches in these towns we visited. We learned a lot and were very impressed by these enormous, beautifully decorated cathedrals. Almost everbody here in Mexico is catholic (about 95%). We have yet to run into anyone from any other denomination or religion. The people attend church very religiously here and take their faith very seriously. A lot of the older people go to mass 7 days a week! (They have services during the weekdays at like 6:30 every morning). They say that their religion is the one good thing they adopted from the spaniards years ago.
Well, we love hearing from you on the message board and we'll let you know if anything else comes up that's worth talking about. Oh yeah, Linds B, to answer your blond question: Actually, they don't seem that impressed with my hair. So many women here dye their hair or put in blond highlights, so I don't think I stand out to much. It's only when I open my mouth that I really stand out =) Ok, that's about it- we are going to go make REAL hamburgers for lunch. (I say real because we've tried ordering a burger in the restaurants and they are like paper thin- I'm talkin worse than white castle). Take care and talk to you soon! Oh yeah, if anyone wants to call us to say hi- we finally figured out exactly what you have to dial to reach us (thanks to Peggy =) Just dial exactly this (no 1 or anything before it):
(001)-(52)-(354)-542-6012
I don't know what everyones long distance plans are like, but we can't call the US for any cheaper than 50 cents per minute, so don't expect too many calls from us =) Or else we won't be able to afford our plane tickets home anytime this decade. We love you all!!! Take care!!!
