Schenck Adventures
Ok, here's a really ¨Yes, I am a blond¨story. Something that we've had to get used to here is all the noise at night. There are dogs constantly barking (especially the one on the roof right accross the street from us), roosters start crowing at like 3 in the morning, and this 1 kid on our street (he's like 9 years old) rides around on his scooter at all hours of the night blowing this whistle- we are still wondering who his parents are. So, anyways, it's sometimes difficult to get a good night sleep (I take lots of naps in the afternoon). To try to solve this problem, I went out to try to find some ear plugs. So, the first store I went to, I just tried to act out my problem (making gestures for no sleep, dogs ruff, ruff, and then like plugged my ears) So the guys like no, we don't have those here, but he told me what it was called in spanish- tapones para los oyes (plugs for the ears). I went to a few other pharmacies around the plaza and would say the words in spanish and they just looked at me funny and said no. This one guy actually sort of laughed at me. Ok, so later I talked to one of my bilingual friends about it, and apparently I was pronouncing it wrong- I was somehow throwing an M in the word ¨tapones¨so I was saying Tampones¨which meant I was saying to everyone at these stores- I need tampons for my ears! I am such a dork! Ok, so I did eventually find them and am sleeping much better =)
