Hey everybody!!! Ok, we've been here for a week and a half and we're finally getting to this journal. We still don't have our camera figured out for pics. yet, but we'll try to describe to you what we're doin here. So far, things are going pretty well. The first week of school was challenging, but we feel pretty good about things now. We both have the same teaching schedule consisting of 1 hour classes with a variety of ages from 6 years old to adult. We teach 2 morning classes from 8-10 in the morning. Then we have our spanish class at the school from 10-11. After that we have a long break for 5 hours where we usually walk around town, go to the market, maybe go eat at a restaraunt, and then probably take a siesta. This week we also spent a lot of time in the afternoons becoming familiar with our teaching materials, curriculum books, and doing lesson plans. It's getting easier now though, so we don't have to spend quite as much time preparing. We're going to get in the habbit of preparing our whole weeks worth of lessons on the weekends so we won't be so stressed during the week. Ok, then we have our afternoon/evening classes from 4-8. We both are enjoying teaching for the most part, but do get frustrated at times. A lot of the kids (especially ages ranging from 9-15) don't want to be there and are very disobedient. The kids we teach are pretty much the rich kids from the town whose parents can afford to send them to this private language school that we're teaching at. (The school is called Culturalingua by the way). But, the adults and older teenagers and very thankful and are there because they want to learn. The younger kids are a lot of fun too. The people in the town are so nice and we feel very safe and comfortable here. We also live with a girl named Lisa (whose 24 like Sarah) and has a 27 year old boyfriend (whose 27 like Adam) who's from here. So, it's been great because they've showed us around town and we all get along really well and hang out a lot together. Our other roommate is named Edith and she's a 49 year old woman whose originally from Jamaica. She's pretty easy going and we hang out with her a little too. Her and Lisa both speak spanish very well, so they're very helpful. We are really excited about this whole experience and really can't wait to learn spanish. We're being pushed in ways we never have before with the teaching aspect, but it's really good for us and we're becoming better teachers already! (We hope =) Ok, well, we hope that everyone's doing great back home and we'd love to hear from you. We'll tell ya more later!
