I have done so much since my last blog, that I feel this one will be more of a novel, so apologies for how long it is in advance.
The main thing that happened in the past 2 weeks was the epic eurotrip with Salli and Richard, but before that I had a little trip to Frankfurt. I had a bus tour all round the city, which was fascinating, even if I did look like a bit of a loner on my own. I then had a little trip to Goethe's house and had a cheeky look round there, and then met up with Vicky for coffee and cake. A rather enjoyable day. :)
The Friday after I went clubbing with Jana and some of her friends to "Chocolate Grooves- Black beats all night long", which amused me a little too much. Had a really good night, and it's great to have people my age to go out with, I dread to think how bored I would be without them :)
Sunday morning was the beginning of the eurotrip... starting with a 10 hour train journey to Vienna. Th journey wasn't so great, mainly because I was sat opposite a man who was listening to classical music and waving his arms about pretending to be a conductor. He may well have been a famous conductor...but seriously, there is a time and a place for things like that! We arrived in Vienna, after a short stop in Wurtzberg, dropped our stuff off at the hostel and went for a search for food. First impressions of Vienna- it looked a little bit rubbish and totally over-rated, but the next day we realised it was just because we were in a dodgy area. We found a nice restaurant and then went back to the hostel to sleep as travelling, despite not actually doing anything, really makes you tired!
So the next day we headed to central Vienna and went to a restaurant that we had our hearts set on...an Australian! There, we ate kangaroo, crocodile and ostrich, as well as grasshoppers...which were actually delicious! This was followed by a drink called "cock-sucking cowboy", just because. We then had a wander around, seeing the opera house, cathedral and castle. However, for me, the highlight of Vienna was a tramp who dressed up in a crown and cloak and danced to "daddy cool", I will upload the video to facebook, because this man needs to be shared with the world- hilarious! We then found a café and had THE best cake ever, it was called an apple tart, but it looked like a real apple, just check the photos, I can't explain how awesome it was. We then headed to the train station to get our dreaded over-night train to Rome.
Needless to say, this was the worst night's sleep of my life, although the people in our cabin were very nice. An Italian man who travels to Vienna to see his son every two weeks was playing games with us and teaching us Italian. However, our only common language was French, so I just tried to sleep, which was difficult to say the least.
On arriving in Rome, we headed straight to our B&B, dumped our stuff, had showers and headed to the centre, mainly to find food, which seems to be a theme of this trip. It was 40 degrees the whole time there, which was brilliant. We decided to get a pizza right in front of the Colosseum, it was something that needed to be done. We then had a tour of the Colosseum, which was truly magnificent, and the stories about it were really interesting, even if I have forgotten most of them now. Outside we had our photo taken with "Roman soldiers", which we were told after would cost us...but I guess it was worth it! We then had a bus tour of Rome, which was good as we could see everything in a short space fo time, something we didn't have. The next day, we had a tour of Vatican city, which lasted a good 4 hours. Our tour guide was brilliant, and we got to see the Pope doing mass, which was pretty cool. The Vatican and St. Peter's were most impressive, and had some really interesting history behind them, which I have also forgotten. After the tour we went for some food, which was delicious, and had some Gelati; awesome Italian ice-cream. We then found the Trevi fountain, which for me was the most impressive thing that we saw in Rome. This was until we walked back to our B&B and saw the Colosseum at night...this is something I won't be forgetting in a hurry! Rome was just amazing, and is somewhere that I really want to visit again in the future.
The next morning we got up to get our train to Paris. I did think it was going to be a waste of a travelling day, however, the countryside that we drove through was breathtaking, so in a way I am glad we did it. We got to Paris late, and got to our hostel, where we split up from Richard, who had other people to see. We were told we would be sharing the room with two girls, and we were a bit worried at first about who they would be, but we were so lucky to have two lovely Spanish roomies. The next morning we headed to the Eiffel tower and climbed it to the top...which hurt, but it was worth it! We then went to look for somewhere to eat and headed to the Louvre. The Louvre was again really impressive, we saw the Mona Lisa, Venus di Milo, loads of stunning paintings and sculptures, we managed to spend the whole afternoon there! The next day we went to Disneyland! I was so excited as I had never been, and it did not disappoint. I had my photo taken with Captain Hook, went on some rides, and just lapped up the atmosphere. It was a brilliant day, bringing back so many childhood memories :) The next day we went to Notre Dame and the Arc de Triumph, and then we did a boat tour of the city. Here we met 2 hilarious women from Tennessee, who gave us their cards so we could visit them if we were ever over there! We also went to the Moulin Rouge and had a cheeky look inside ;)
We then met up again with Richard and got another night train, this time to Zurich. This one was better as we had beds, but it still wasn't great. We got to Zurich and had a nice day walking around and eating some tasty Swiss food, and trying their famous chocolate. We then headed to Geneva, where it turned out our hotel was actually in France, so we didn't have the right money to pay. But we sorted it, and got an upgrade in the mean time! We went to the only restaurant near the hotel, but it didn't disappoint. The next day we had a quuick look around Geneva, the only famous thing there was the fountain, but it was nice, then we went to a typical Swiss restaurant and had cheese findu, which was amazing!
We then got the train home, and that is that on my eurotrip. I have so much more to say but there just isn't enough room to fit it all in!
Yesterday I went to see my sister who is on an exchange here, which was lovely, and I got hugged, twice, by my old German teacher, really awkward, but really hilarious!
Meeting up with some old Hull friends this week, so stay tuned!
:-)
