India and Nepal 2022
I am so happy to have arrived at the end of my Camino Frances journey in Santiago de Compostela. Another 20km day in heavy rain showers and sunny spells lead me to where all the Camino routes have converged for centuries. There is no welcoming ceremony or fanfare, just the realisation that there are no more yellow arrows or scallops shells to follow (well, for 24 hours at least!). This is the end of my epic 500 mile journey on foot from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago which started on October 2nd. The first thing to do is to text my three great children, Jon, Alex and Livy to let them know the news. They mean the world to me and I wanted them to be the first to hear. Margita and I have shared our Camino in so many ways and experienced so much together in all weathers and over all terrains over the past few weeks and we had a big hug. It was really good to meet up with Alan and Sherry who we had last seen on the Meseta and to share an excellent final evening with them and Jim and Dave. I collected my Compostela certificate from the pilgrims office and I now have a Latin name of Dominum Ricardum Hayes.
