Pedra Furada to Tamel Sao Pedro Fins
Last night our hospitalero Antonio told some stories of his life which was fascinating. How he had travelled to Paris without a passport when he was 17 hiding from armed guards on the border between Spain and Portugal.....how he had worked in Amsterdam for a while and what is was like under a fascist dictatorship.
it is hard to believe that only 40 years ago, things were very different in Spain and Portugal where secret police in his village included a local teacher and a parish priest. We sometimes take our freedoms for granted and we must always be prepared to fight for them.
Lunchtime today brought us to the delightful town of Barcelos and its market day!
Barcelos is where the famous cockerel emblem used throughout Portugal originated and as you might imagine, it's all over the town!
The Camno is becoming more real now with great new signs and a sense of the historic pilgrim route where churches were linked up along the route to Santiago.
