Santarem to Golega
For the first time, I felt in the Camino rhythm today. The walk took us over the rich alluvial soil from the river Tejo which produces great agricultural land.
We walked through cornfields, vineyards and farm tracks where farmers were collecting up peppers and melons.
it was good to be away from traffic and to get into a zone listening to music and feeling the spirit of this ancient pathway. It's a long day of walking but an enjoyable one.
By mid afternoon, we reached Pombalinho where we met two young Canadian women cycling the Camino and then traveling across Spain to the French border. They have a great intrepid spirit of adventure which I really like.
It should have been 8.5 Kms from here to Golega but the new route made it twice as far - a monster day of 38kms! As we walked the final few kilometres along the busy narrow road into town, we were nearly wiped out by an idiotic driver overtaking.
Another day of adventure on the Camino.
