India and Nepal 2022
Christiane is a French VSO volunteer and is leaving in a couple of weeks. I think that her apartment may be suitable as it is located in the north of the city, closer to my work. I meet her and she kindly shows me her place and all the details about landlord, water, electricity etc.
Rents in Yangon are extremely high and a condominium apartment near where I am staying now is approximately £1200 per month. As my allowance for accommodation is about a sixth of that, I have to adjust expectations accordngly.
I hope to get agreement tomorrow and so will post up some photos when I move in.
I meet up up again with Cora, who is from the Philippines and a wonderful positive happy woman, who lights up any room with her smile. A new shopping and cinema centre is town has just opened and young people, in particular, are visiting in large numbers.
Yangon is opening up to new clothes, technology, films, foods, and other goods and it feels like the dawn of a new era.
The monsoon rains are incredible and, as I walked down the wonderfully named Insein Road (pronounced Insane), water quite literally came up to my shins. Despite an umbrella and waterproof jacket, I was completely soaked as I met up with Anne, Paul and four other Australian volunteers.
