India and Nepal 2022
I like this part of Myanmar a lot.
Kalaw has a mountain trekking feel to it which is the sort of environment I enjoy being in. The travelling market is here too adding colour and the local ethnic women are selling their goods.
The trek is arranged through 'Uncle Sam' who set up his company 25 years ago and our guide is an 18 year old man called 'Noo Noo' He adds lots of information, humour and is a really good cook.
I am here with Jane, Melani and Chris. A lovely group to be with.
We see fields of chili, avocado trees and ginger and we are staying in villages where time has stood still.
We spend the night at Pattu Pauk village where they are preparing for the arrival of 400 monks tomorrow. We all sleep side by side upstairs in a farm house and downstairs across the yard, bullocks and water buffalo are wrapped up to protect them against the cold
.
A canopy of stars in the night sky provides the perfect end to a very special day.
The following morning is misty and atmospheric and we all love the spiders webs which we pass by in the early stages. It's a trek you simply do not want to end but by mid afternoon, we arrive at our boat on Inle Lake ready to take us to our homestay where we will see in the new year.
