India and Nepal 2022
This has been a wonderful weekend break at the beach resort of Ngwe Saung on the Bay of Bengal.
Its a five hour car journey across the Ayeyarwady delta region through small villages and along narrow bumpy roads with many cycles, motorbikes, buses and cars.
On the way, there is an opportunity to see a long schoool procession from the school to the monastery as this weekend is Tazaungdaing festival of full moon which includes the offering of gifts to monks.
Ngwe Saung is great and a mixture of an old village with a packpacker feel to it and the new luxury resorts being built along the shore line.
The beach is beautiful fringed with palm trees and the Bay of Bengal waters are warm and inviting.
Quad bikes and motor bikes go up and down as do horses including a bizzarely painted one which looks like a zebra.
Instead of sand castles, local people here make sand pagodas!
Its a supermoon night and this is a wonderful sight as is the setting sun over the ocean.
Its also Livy's 21st birthday and I manage to get a great wifi connection for a long and enjoyable conversation.
Asia is always providing contrasts. Leaving behind white sandy beaxhes, beautiful sunsets and picturesque hillside viallages, we are passed on the way home, by a truck and hear the squeals of pigs, some alive and some dead and some dying. The yin and yang of Asia.
