Day 1. Arrived at Puket after a long haul. Tired and its very very hot here. No one initially evident to meet me so had to fend off loads of taxi drivers. Eventually approached by two females wearing orphanage t shirts. They had a copy of my passport photo and when they looked at it they both burst out laughing. Think they were looking for someone heavier. Talked in Thai and giggled all the way to the car .
Eventually arrived at the compound or at least that is putting it politely. The first appearance was of a group of shacks put together. To be honest I got they shock of my life !! Pretty basic and the kids on the floor with mattresses. The kids promptly came out and introduced themselves very enthusiastically. Kids are lovely and always want to take hold of your hand.I was then told that the mozzies here are server even compared to the normal ones. Have been told my spray will do no good and that the cream is better which I will get as soon as I get the chance. I then had a lovely rice dinner. After that I was asked to go with the children to the temple which was about half a miles walk away down a very dangerous road. They drive here as though they want to go to heaven early !!! No crash helmets often three or more to a bike and some of them don't even have lights on at night.
At the temple they chanted for 3/4 of a hour before every one had to walk round with 2 candles and some jaw sticks wrapped round flowers and held together by an elastic band. So there I was walking round, burnt my finger on the candles while the hot wax was falling on to my bare feet. I was a sorry sight. It's now 9.20 and we are all in bed. Tomorrow should be interesting as we have a group of school students coming to stay for a few days. Looks like there will be more than me in here tomorrow . My room has two beds in it. The beds are great if you like sleeping on concrete and there is no hot water. This is going to be funny. Have been dancing round the room like a big game hunter seeking out the mosses while spraying myself from top to bottom with a new brand of mozzy aftershave !! Just about to settle down for the night when hear what sounds like the resident vulture pearched outside the window next to my bed. Happy days.

Sheila Needham I thought it might be basic but not quite so much as your description pictures! Like Karen - what have you let yourself in for? Look forward to hearing more.

Andy Good job your scotch so culturally it's a step up !!!! Lol
Mark and Caitlyn Hi Billy, you'll not believe this but 30 degrees here everyone's in shorts and i really wish that was true. It's freezing! Enjoy the mosquito's don't scratch the bites - my legs are still recovering from india. The time you had at the temple sounds great - could we fit it into a family service! Hope you make friends with the vulture!
Libby Illidge Have a wonderful time Billy and just remember( Nurse Illidge speaking now) to wash your hands a lot, and preferably find some HOT water for the purpose. Im looking forward to hearing all your news.
Alan Bridgewater Very amused you have been teaching English to the children, Billy. Will they all develop a Scottish accent!? Sounds like you are having a great time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Now wash your hands. Alan and Janet B.
