Wednesday : overcast
I Woke up feeling better today than yesterday, so off to a good start. It was 10am before we left the room this morning. We packed up ready for check out, because we didn't know if we could get tickets for the night train to Hanoi. We kind if forgot to organize that yesterday, didn't matter we can stay another night, we like this room and it's cheap.
Maybe cheap because there is no breakfast but that didn't matter, we had breaky across the road and it was a great feast.
Yep well we're staying another night we hired a scooter and went for a ride to the train station and had to get tickets for tomorrow night. All sold out for tonights trip, and we also had to get hard sleepers, the soft sleepers were sold out, that means hard bench to sleep on for 12 hrs CAN NOT WAIT!!
After the train Station we headed for an Emperors Tomb. Not before we got asked by another scooter rider to come back to their house to teach there kids some english.
It was a good ride about 30min along a twisty country road that followed the river. Had a manual scooter this time, bit more grunt than the last one, but it had no clutch, so the gear changes we a bit rough.
We chose the tomb of Minh Mang he was an emperor for 20 yrs.
1820 - 1840. Its ment to be the most majestic out of the tombs, due to it's architecture and how it blends into the natural surroundings, like the huge lakes and the pine Forrest's in it 28 acre enclosure completely surrounded by giant brick walls. It was a very peaceful place, really quiet and hardly anyone was there. Maybe because it's the furtherest one away from Hue.
Now I don't know how large the Citadel's grounds were yesterday, but to put things into perspective this tomb was on 28 acre grounds and it's just a tomb! The Citadels grounds are just massive, these Emperors are quite extravagant.
Like the Citadel it had different areas for different things. Statues of his closest posse guarding the main gate. Which led you along a granite pathway, which took you up and down granite staircases through temples and buildings. Past residences over bridges until you came to the tomb which was a hill, covered in pine trees on an island surrounded by big brick walls. The gates were locked, they are only opened once a year for the anniversary of the Kings death.
Another interesting place, one for the books. We went back into Hue for a scoot round the Citadel and city centre for an hour or so, before dropping the bike back off to the hotel.
Then we went to a cafe for some drinks and checked out some airfare prices for heading to china at a travel agent.
We finished the arvo off by sitting up on our balcony with beers a chips watching the sun get lower and lower. Cases are only $12 bucks Nice.
Then it was time for dinner we went to the same place were we had breaky, we like this establishment. Food is good and cheap, they also do great dumplings.
We finished up din dins and went back to the room had some more drinks watching some movies, Rocky 3 was on tonight nice choice.
Cruisey day tomorrow might hit the markets and stock up on some food for the train.
