Monday : sunny
We still had left over rolls from yesterday's kayaking session. So that was breaky on the balcony at 6am.
We checked out off our hotel a walked to the bus stop, and hopped on for another wacky trip small bus, boat, small bus, big bus. This time though we paid for a ticket. So we could kind of relax, still can not get use to the horns.
We hopped off around 11:30am, at the bus station where we hopped on the bus last thursday. Jumped in a cab and got taken to a hotel.
What a welcome too, a bloke came across the street to collect our bags and took them up the stairs to reception, and then to our room. At reception the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. They took Kim and I to some lounges and gave us wet towels, water melon juices and a map of the city. She asked us questions about our trip and what we had planned for Hanoi. She booked our plane ticket to Hong Kong, and while all this was happening our room was being prepared with fresh fruit, water and the a/c on to cool it down. She toured us around the hotel and our room with all the controls. Best welcome ever!
After a freshen up we dropped our laundry off and got lunch at the restaurant next door. Another reception tip, glad we took it, it tasty.
Afterwards we went for our usual city lap. We went around the lake, stopping off to get drinks along the way. Kim bought some sunscreen too and I bought some Vietnamese style coffee filters.
Hanoi is a shopping mecca, every type of shop line all the streets. Very colorful too, a lot of people were out around the lake and surrounding parks, enjoying the nice weather today.
We headed across town to a restaurant that we had read about. It was setup by this Viet/Aussie guy to help street kids, by training them in the hospitality industry. His training is world recognized, so once the people finish, they can work anywhere. Sound good? Well after the long walk there, the place was closed on mondays. So we ate at a place next door, they made good Pho.
We walked back to the hotel and typed up some bank letters for the UK, and went to bed more walking planned for tomorrow.
