Wednesday : sunny
Well we had a good bed, good sleep nice bathroom, and AC. Kim still was in a bit of pain and couldn't stray to far from the toot though.
After breaky we went to find a chemist and train tickets to get out of this warm breezeless place. Had an interesting experience once we found the chemist. The lady couldn't speak English and Kim was writing the drug names down, for her to read. She didn't have any antibiotics for a bladder infection. So Kim wrote down cranberry pills, she brought out pills to suppress fits. Ha
We ended up getting train tickets too. Had to pay a little more for them, but we were told the cabin sleeps four. Not six this time, we'll see.
I organized a late checkout because our train leaves at 20:45 tonight, we had a read through lonely planet and a bit of a walk through town. Lao Cai doesn't really have anything to offer At all. It is definitely not as well keep as the other places we have been too either.
It seems to be one of those towns that people come too to change direction in their public transportation. It is the last train stop before China, which is only two kms away. We thought about checking out the border, but we were worried about the WC situation.
It has a river that divides the town like Hue. The river front has not been at all developed, like other towns. We weren't even allowed to cross the bridge on foot.
So we had a good relaxing late lunch at a cafe with drinks and ice-cream across from our hotel. Finished up there and went back to our room to get ready for the train.
You could say that we were very nervous about the out come of this train trip. We haven't been the luckiest of travelers when it comes to Nam's public transport.
After guessing the announcement was for our train, ( no English announcements here ) we boarded and found our cabin easily. Normal numbers used on this train the last couple trains were not. More to our relief there were four beds. We had two Viet fellas in there with us, one could speak English too and showed us which station to hop off at on our map. Just before the power went out. What is it with us and power outages! Hoi An, Quy Nhon, SaPa, last nights hotel and now this train?? Luckily it was sorted and after a bit more of a chin wag we hit the hay. See how this one goes, fingers are crossed.
