Friday : sunny
Early risers! They were terrible! They never went to sleep, neither did I. The bottom two ladies must of gone to the toilet like 5-6 times each. They did not once properly close the door to our cabin, so it kept swinging open and the bright fluro hallway lights would blair in. I was in a hot then cold sweat all night, I must of had about 20 mins sleep. Then one lady got up at 2:50am opened the curtains up, so all the outside lights would Blair in now, then she started praying. While clearing her throat until 5:30 when the test of them got up. Then it was a mothers meeting. What a night!! My iPod was playing all night, I did some reading too, I don't know what's worse train or bus??
We got to Hanoi 10min before the train to Lao Cai left, luckily us. Bought two tickets, and got seated on that train. We were literally on hard timber seats this time, no thin mattress this time for 12hrs!! On No Sleep! Yippie! My butt was killing me I've ridden long distances on the bike but this was heaps worse. It was a very difficult the train trip, the train was so over booked, people were sitting on the floor on each other. Everyone was climbing over each other, don't think there is a thing such as personal space here. We even had people climb in through our window, and started selling food. Don't ask me why they used the window. I could not tell you?? No one was using there inside voices so everyone was shouting at each other. I had the iPod up full ball to try and block out the noise. Which probably gave me the massive headache, or was it not drinking enough water because I didn't want to go to the toilet and get onto a blue with the person that took my seat when I came back. It was bloody metal a bloody zoo. Well it looked like one when we were hopping off, nut shells, fruit skins, rubbish even vomit was on the floor.
Once at Lao Cai, the journey to Sapa was still not over. Jumped in a ford mini van (Ahh soft seats), and enjoyed the 40km of green mountain scenery. We were climbing the whole way there too, once at Sapa we were sitting at 1600m above sea level. Lao Cai is 200m above, there are is cool and fresh much like Dalat (1500m) was.
We didn't have any reservation, so we went through three hotels before finding sunshine hotel Sapa top floor with balcony for $9 a night and what a view! It seriously made the past 36hrs disappear.
We enjoyed the view from a balcony for a couple hrs, finishing of a supermarket food. Then headed down for dinner and beers. It ended up being a candle light dinner, the power went out when it started to pour down with rain.
It felt great to have a shower a fall asleep listening to to rain on the roof and a cool breeze with the window open.
