Sunday : overcast
I was coughing all night and then up at 5am for the start of our trek. The group met down in the lobby, and then left for our flight to Lukla at 6am
They stepped up the security at the airport today, but we still were able to get on the plane with knives and liquids. By accident of corse.
Lukla airport is suppose to be one of the most dangerous airports in the world, for landing and taking off. It's on the edge of a cliff, Kim was freaking out, with help from Jordan. The flight was fine and so was the landing, Lukla is 2800m high above sea level.
We had a rest at a nice hotel overlooking the runway and watched some planes perform a few crazy landings.
Then we hit the road, we walked down to 2600m. Quite a slow pace with frequent stopping for people and their photographs, It could be a long trip. See how we go, it is the start, better of to take it easy.
It was a good easy walk to our lunch stop. Very rocky, just had to be careful with the wet rocks. The clouds were out also so the views were limited. The air was nice and fresh though, but I'm still coughing badly.
Lunch was a long stop, too long almost three hours. The prices increased quite a lot too.
The walk to our lodge at Phakding was a wet one, it rained on and off. It was a slow pace again I started to back off because I keep being stopped by the front people.
The lodge isn't bad no shower though. It's built pretty well seems warm and quite from the outside noise.
The fantastic four went for a walk around the village looking for tea and to compare restaurant prices. They're all had the same prices, we did pickup some tea to use with our daily water supply, that gets boiled in the morning everyday.
While we waited for dinner we experienced a large Earthquake 6.9 on the scale. My first one, it was full on. Funny thing was that all the tour leaders bailed, with people still up in their rooms, a lady was in the shower too. I went up stairs to get the remainders to meet up with the rest of the group. Everyone was so frantic, even the two Kiwis.
Everything and Everyone was fine no damage, no landslides. We did see quite a few landslides on the walk today, and people had died in some of those slides. That's what I first worried about with the quake. We did get and aftershock, but very minor.
It was another late dinner, we have to do a lot of waiting on this trek. I ordered a nice warn stew, hit the spot. Then we got briefed on tomorrow, the guide seemed to of relaxed a bit too. We then threw out the sleeping bag got ready for bed.
