Saturday - Fine
We took full advantage of the buffet and coffee machine this morning, and after a 3 shot charge of coffee we had a nice stroll into town.
There are so many clothes shops here in Milan, it seemed like all the streets we took to the Duomo this morning were filled with shops. Really fancy ones as well!
We hung around out the front of the worlds fifth largest cathedral for awhile taking some happy snaps. It looked fantastic, and it looked like it had just been cleaned too.
There is no charge to get inside the Duomo, so we went in for a sticky beak. It's a very large cathedral mostly bare stone on the inside, but it has a few nicely decorated areas. However Barca's cathedral has set a new standard for inside lighting. Construction of the church began in 1386, and took nearly six centuries to complete. It was built on top of the previous chapel, that was built in the fourth century! It is still possible do go inside the old chapel too.
We had a 10-20min walk towards Castle Sforza, and along the way there were lots of signs, billboards and even buses advertising for the 2015 world expo nice and early.
We stopped for a break out the front of the castle by the fountain watching a lot at people being followed around by paparazzi. Kim said its fashion week, I didn't recongnise anybody. Ha not that I would!
We eventually went through the gates of Castlo Sforza. It was built in the 15th century, and we just walked through some of the courtyards, past a number of museums and galleries that the castle now exhibits.
Once through to the other side of the castle we went into the park for a bit of a sit down. It's a nice park lots of family picnics, and kids playing games, people enjoying their Saturday. On the walk around the park we came across an big arch of peace, which like all the arches that we have seen over here, has the 4 horses on top with the angle.
We then left the part and went looking for a bakery, we wanted a panzerotti. They are like a small version of the calzone (another favorite of mine) but made with a softer slightly sweet dough. It's much like a pizza pocket too, but 10 times better!
Our mission lead us into a really nice part of town. Brera is probably only a few blocks in size, but what it lacked in size killed it in quality. It looked like a small genuine Italian town, like its not part of the city at all. It had smaller houses, small pedestrian only cobblestone streets and plenty of colour. However we couldn't find a baker, there were plenty of lovely restaurants even a few fortune tellers.
We ended up finding a baker selling delicious panzerotti very close to the hotel for a decent price. We grabbed a slice of yummy pizza as well then went back to the grocery store for more wine and fonzies for aperitivo on the balcony.
