Sunday - Rain
We had a big storm come through just before checkout this morning, and the rain was kind enough to hold off long enough for us to enjoy our last few hours in this pretty town.
We were lucky enough to walk all around town again, stopping off at quite a few cafes and trying their coffee and pastries. A new favorite of mine is the cannoli, it's delish!
After a good walk, we needed a break. We picked up some of the best pizza in town, and ate it down by the sea.
It was soon time to go and pickup our bags from the hotel, and get on the bus to the airport. The bus trip to the airport took forever, it was over an hour. The bus seemed to have made all the stops!
Weird things were happening at the airport, no one seemed to want to use the barriers forming the lines. Instead the weirdos made their own lines. From the checkin desks the line ran out through the doors of the airport, I've never seen this before.
It wasn't the only time this happened here either, once through security we went to our gate where people formed this big silly line that circled around chairs, and back out to security.
We had to wait for a storm to past as well, it gave us a 30min delay, as if flying with Ryanair wasn't bad enough! By now to me, it just seemed that the people didn't like having any order at all, the line was a joke! Maybe they felt like cattle in those barriers or something, I don't know, but when the time came to board the aircraft, they sure acted like cattle anyway. They all stampeded towards the gate trying to be first on the plane. It was a free for all! Ah the joys of flying Ryanair!
Once on the aircraft, it was still like a barnyard. People yelling and carrying on. Sitting backwards on the chairs talking to their mates behind them. I felt for the attendants, no one listened to the safety brief.
They all seemed to want the window seat too, everyone was moving around, leaning over, trying to get a better view out the window. It was really strange. It was like everyone's first time on a plane. Fortunately, the flight was only 40mins and I could not wait to get off the plane and get to our hotel and have some tucker.
We had a plan once out of the airport, and it was to get in a cab, and let it take us to our accommodation. However we were persuaded to take the cheaper shuttle bus.
Take it from me, unless you have a private transfer prearranged or don't mind airports, take the cab! We were sweetened up by being told that the shuttle leaves every 15mins and of course the price.
The shuttle doesn't leave every 15mins. It leaves when it is full and going your way! And if that means that it has to wait for the next plane to fill up, so be it. The lying sons of b****es! When it approached the 45min mark and we had already be turned away because of the direction the previous shuttles were heading, I let Kim storm the office so she could piss off the deceitful b******s long enough to get us on a shuttle. I stayed out side and kept calm by watching the fireworks.
They did keep one end of their deal at least, which was to drop us off out the front of the hotel. Too bad it wasn't over an hour before.
On the shuttle we passed through a lot of towns that had plenty of restaurant and shops still open. This gave us hope of being able to eat when we arrived to our hotel.
We are staying in a self contained flat again, which is a lot like Ryanair in a way, and a shame. As soon as you walk into the lobby you have all these advertised deals in your face. Even at reception, they give you a big spiel on all the hotels meal and trip deals. We even got told that we had to spend €10 per night for the A/C. That's a first! After a quick pub feed we went to a shop nearby, and pickup some supplies to get us started.
We plan to have a relaxing time here in Malta, go to the beach, see a couple old towns and take a cruise around the islands. The hotel is right on the beach, it has a main bus stop out the front, and there are cruise boats out in the bay. So we should get a few ideas ticked off before the week is out.
