China&Peru 2006
Well, we arrived safe and sound in Peru on the 21st and settled into a cosy matrimonial suite at the Incawasi hostel (they had no other rooms for the 1st night, and nowhere else seemed to be open at midnight).
Looked around Lima for the 1st few days, spending time in Miraflores and central Lima. We had a chance to visit the presidential palace, the cathedral and their china town.
We met up with the rest of our tour group on the 25th- 8 of us in total, including the tour guide, who is a pretty chatty peruvian girl a shade older than Matthew and myself. At first sight, the rest of the group might well have booked their holidays through SAGA- 3 ossies and another Brit (from Birminham). 1 ossie being an extremely loud and opinionated woman, 1 being an equally opinionated and self proffessed success, the last being a seriously decent guy called George who is of Greek descent. All well past 30.
The brit is a quiet but kindly girl who seems very nice despite her home town (Lee, if you ever read this, that one's for you!).
Over the last few days I have become more accustomed to their presence and we all get on quite well now, I think.
Mon-After watching Australia drop out of the World Cup, we caught a bus down to Pisco, looked around , and then went to our hotel in the nearby coastal town of Paracas.
Tues- we caught another bus to Ica, an oasis town, where we stopped for lunch and then went out into the desert for some dune buggying and sand-boarding. The boarding was great fun and definitely worth a try, eventhough i'll be scraping sand out of all manner of orifice for the next few weeks (I still have some in my eye...). We also saw a couple of the nasca lines, but I'll save any comments until after tomorrow, when we fly over them.
Hope all is well wherever you are, take care xx
