China&Peru 2006
Wed 28 June
Woke up nice and early and drove into Nasca where we were shown around a pottery that stil uses the "inca methods" and then we visited a gold refinery where the miners frequently handle mercury....... health&safety would have a field day!
After this we were driven to the Nasca airport and the 1st five of our group were flown over the Nasca lines. Matt, Chasey and myself then had to wait at least an hour and a half in the glorious sunshine whilst some silly couple got lost and found before turning up (they actually removed us from a plane ready for take off so that we could wait for them!). Once Matt had decided that he no longer wanted to fly and Michelle had changed her mind one hundred and twenty three times about flying she finally clambered into the little plane with me and the couple (the female half was sick during the flight which was particularly unpleasant, but chase remained totally oblivious to it all- as ever!xx).
Following lunch we returned to the hotel and I took a dip in the pool and promptly regretted trusting the waiter when he told me that it gets really warm in the afternoons...
After being delayed for an hour due to "bad weather" (it had been 25+ degrees all day!) we boarded a night bus to Arequipa- the best bit of it all was that we sat in fully reclining leather seats!!!
