China&Peru 2006
Thursday was spent roaming around Arequipa which turned out to be a gorgeous town. We went to a 'traditional'peruvian restaurant for dinner and were serenaded by a 4 man band which was good fun.
After dinner most of us headed to a bar for a few drinks and then to a club called the Forum.
On Friday we woke up (some in worse shape than others, glad to say that I was in great shape!) and jumped on a minibus with Colca Canyon as our destination. After a few stops along the way to let some of the group show just how ill they felt (with some altitude sickness adding to their nausea) we arrived in our hotel which seemed lovely at first but then turned out to have a schizophrenic shower that would either shoot skin- burning or willy- freezing water all over you (all was fine other than that- especially their rather delicious vegetable soup). Took a trip to the local thermal springs too which was SO hot!!
Sat 30th
Travelled to the condor cross early in the morning to watch the condors catching their own thermals- massive birds, but they eat sea lion placenta as their staple diet so I dont think theyre my favourite bird...
Went for a walk up the valley side to some pre inca tombs.
Dinner at a traditional restaurant where they demonstrated some Andean dancing.
