It is my last full day in Mwanza and at Hisani. Had my final proper lesson - on adjectives - with standard 3 yesterday and a run through of the alphabet with standard zero this morning. That's it, no more classes. In town this afternoon getting ready for my leaving party, with pizza, cake, soda, Tanzania music, some Christmas balloons, and no doubt a tear in my eye. Last night i enjoyed a final meal out with some of the other vols.
Now it has finally come, I actually feel like I could stay. I am sticking with my decision, however. I am not going to gain much by having another week, although the kids are sad that i am leaving them. They still can't work out why i am going a week before Tom, and I have difficulty explaining as it sounds like I am deserting them. I will miss them, but I won't miss the constant demand for giving them stickers.
I met up again with Bernard on Wednesday at his house, and he has spent time with me today. It has been quite incredible reading the messages in responses to my statement about what has happened to me. Especially Jenny's post. It really moved me. I am now stating that I am a Christian and beginning to lose the self-conscious doubts I had, previously, whenever talking about faith. So far, so good. I haven't begun any scholarly reading yet, but i have next week for that. In fact, the timing is perfect, ahead of Kili. But I do feel I am not alone any more. I have God on my side and he is probably working on a plan for me now. I was already feeling a lot stronger post-Christmas anyway, spurred on by my time running out, and this has just excellerated everything.
Anyway, my work here is done. Next stop Arusha...
