Well, its the weekend again. Relax. It's been a struggle at times i can tell you - mostly dealing with tensions in camp. I've been ill and been falling in and out of love with Tanzania. But as Friday finished there was a calmer mood. Plans for a party for the kids next Sunday - featuring some kind of pre-christmas nativity play - are taking shape. Unfortunately we had to cancel a planned trip to Tunza Beach, with kids, today because of predicted bad weather.
I have just heard, this morning, that Jenny has decided NOT to return. This comes after plans to return next week. This is so sad, expecially for her as she says she will probably regret the decision for the rest of her life. She is also cancelling her Kili climb, so i am all alone at the moment - unless Tom opts to join me - which he might - mind you it is the kind of experience that can test the most solid of friendships, so i am bit wary of him coming.
I am feeling better now. I had a malaria test which turned out to show no parasite, so i must have just eaten something bad. I was very weak for a day, though. I have been teaching standard four this week. I drew a pretty good map of Wells-next-the-Sea and described my home town to them. I got them to ask directions from e.g. The Quay to Phil's House, the Secondary School to the Library.. that kind of thing. They found it difficult but Small Eric and Christina shone through, scoring best in the Friday test. There has lots more building work here, with the new 'dormitory' being built radidly. I just fear for the kids' safety when these huge trucks roll in during mango eating time! Mind you, the trucks do help a few more mangoes off the trees. Have also been assisting Marwa, the boy with Polio, this week. Lessons consist of sitting with him while he does some colouring in, or playing him music - he seems to like Reggae. Also played him a 10 minute acapella Massai chant as sung by our watchman, Jackson and his friends. I shall call them the Jackson 3. The video and audio footage is coming along nicely now and the film of my adventure might be about 4 hours!
4 wks done, 7 to go here in Buswelu. Money is going fast... will have to exchange my US dollars soon. Still avoiding using my Visa til January. I might have to return early (after Kili) if funds run out.. and Zanzibar, where i was heading, is more expensive.
Thanks again for the messages.. although one or two new ones would be good. Haven't heard from anyone connected to the Corner House apart from Sarah - have you all forgotten me? or don't care anymore? Send me some Corner House gossip, please someone.
Anyway, keep on reading the posts...
For now,
Kwa Heri
