Dec 1st. World Aids Day. Appropriately, we started taking the children for HIV tests this week. Getting involved in the health of the kids was not something i envisaged or particularly hoped. But this is a one-off project which we felt important to be involved in. I am not a natural nurse or doctor, my medical knowledge is somewhat limited, but i have applied myself to the task, nonetheless. Lessons this week have, consequently, been disrupted a little, as i have been 'teaching' those standards who have been going for the tests.
I have suffering with stomach cramps this week, and am going to get some medical help myself later.
Nearly halfway through my time here, and its a case of head down, do what i came here for, think of the kids first and try to avoid dodgy africans pretending to want to learn English but really just wanting money!
On a lighter note, we have a pre-Christmas style Mexican-led, party on Sunday. It will involve Pinyata (balloons stuffed with candy/sweets), songs, an orienteering treasure hunt, a 'bear hunt', and a nativity play, performed by standards 3 and 5. I will wait to see the play on Sunday as I have no involvement in its preparation... suffice to say it could be very interesting to see if one single line of dialogue is remembered.
Will post again soon.
