I woke up to a drizzly day but it didn't seem too cold which was good. Jen took me to a gorgeous little cafe called The Breakfast Club to have a traditional full English breakfast. Oh my God, it did not disappoint! Sooooo yummy. They make their own hash browns and baked beans and it looked amazing on the plate too.
After breakfast we headed to the train station to make our way into London. While we were waiting on the platform an announcement came across to stand clear because a train was coming through that was not stopping. Holy crap in a bucket it was fast! I know we have fast trains back home, but this one was like it was on speed (you see what I did there...) it was so fast!
When we arrived we headed straight to Harrods. The store was amazing. The Egyptian room was unbelievable. The intricate details were just amazing. We made our way to the gift shop and I may have gone a little crazy on bits and pieces, but it was all so cute!!!
We next went to Harvey Nichols and had cocktails in the most gorgeous bar overlooking some beautiful buildings. Here began the slippery slope of alcoholic beverages!
Our next stop was a visit to the London Eye, with a slight stop off for some fresh hot churros and chocolate dipping sauce. The queue was enormous even though it was raining. Jen had pre booked our tickets so we didn't have to wait in line, but our tickets were a little different. A normal ticket is one revolution. We had two revolutions, prosecco and chocolate! It was a Hotel Chocolat tasting.
We were "taught" how to taste chocolate, I know what you're thinking, I'm a seasoned professional at chocolate tasting, but I'm open to hearing how others do it. There were some really strong tastes including chilli and one that was100% coacoa. The 100% one was disgusting! Jen and I both had to spit it out. We finished up with two of the yummiest chocolates I have ever tasted, and I've had a lot of chocolate in my time!!! The tasting was supposed to include 2 glasses of prosecco, we had 5 each. Slipping further down that slope.....
Our next stop was to Gordon's Wine Bar. This place looks like nothing from the outside, like a closed down old bar, but you go through a side gate and down the stairs and you enter an old dug out bomb shelter that was used during the war. It is literally a cave down there. It's dimly lit and the atmosphere is brilliant. We were lucky to get a seat at an old wine barrel then quickly jumped onto a table as a group beside us left. We met some really cool people who joined us at our table including a couple from Nottingham, who we had a great time talking about travels. Our next table visitor was one of the bar men on his dinner break. He was from Hungary. We had a great chat with him too. By this stage we were finishing off our second bottle of French wine. I think we had stopped slipping and had begun falling. The bar man went back to work and stopped back to give us another bottle of wine as a gift, which was really sweet of him. The wi e was a Chardonnay, or cardi as I prefer to call it. It kind of tasted like I would expect pee to taste. Jen stealthily tipped it out into a nearby bucket and we made our way to the train station, stopping at another bar for another drink. Walking is thirsty work!
The train ride home was fun. But Jen was mean and recorded me doing my best attempt at a British accent. Something I apparently do much better when I've been drinking! We got back to Jen's and had one more drink before collapsing in bed.
My blog was a little late for this day due to a rather bad headache. Not sure why I had a headache though, strange....
