On the third day, a middle aged american guy turns up. He was wearing a sweat band around his head, and had a long platted pony tail. He introduced him self as Jeff, but he told us that his friends like to call him "Happy Bear !!". Turns out this guy was taught by the elders of the ancient Indian Coyote tribe, and he was here to pray in the sweat lodge!!! Leo the German and a couple from Belgium decided that it would be a good idea to join them, and so did I. The cermony started at sun down, and we all entered the lodge, a stick tent in a dome shape, covered in thick cloth. Then the first lava rocks entered. There were seven of them representing the north, east, south, west, earth, sky and one other (I wasn't really paying too much notice). Then we sang some chants and prayed a little!. Each time he would pour water on the rocks, heating the place up. They added rocks at four stages, until the place was cooking, and damn it was hot. He kept saying mind over matter. Think with your heart and not your head. Even so half the people left after the second round. At this point it felt like your skin was gonna peel off. Luckily I had enough space to lie down and curl up like a baby! It was cooler, and I could also stick my hand out the bottom of the tent and breathe some cold air!! (kinda cheating) After we finished the ceremony by sharing a herbal pipe!! Then amazingly they had cooked some traditional Mexican food! Bingo! and all for free! Though, all said - I would never get in one again!
