Hola from Costa Rica! (Well actually I´m writing this in Panama City. I seem to have gotten a little bit behind! again!) I arrived by plane into the Capital San Jose, after a sleepy 5 hour flight. I only stayed there night, before moving onto La Fortuna. Not many travellers had much good to say about San Jose, and I had to agree! The place is run down and looks poor, yet it is pretty expensive. The main highlight of San Jose was the KFC! The folowing day I was introduced to the of the public transport system. The good news was it was really cheap, the bad news was you got what you paid for! The 5 hour bus journey was about 3500 Colones (Sterling 1.65). the bus just kept filling and filling with people, on route. Until there were no more seats, then no more standing, then there was a little space for leaning, and a little more space for school kids in the stairwells and peoples laps......etc etc. When we got there, I found the hostel called Gringo Pete´s. This place was recommended to me by a guy in Mexico. It was a cool place, and really cheap, only 3USD per night! It was rumoured that this place was a cover, for Gringo Petes drug running business! Well if it was, we weren´t offered any! The following day, I met with some people in the Hostel, and we hired some mountain bikes. They wanted to cycle upto a free hot spring near the Volcano. What a mistake that one turned out to be! Humid as hell, at high altitude, 10 miles there, and all up hill. And.....it all appeared that they were super human athletes. I had clocked a couple of unfit looking girls in the group, and I thought that they would break way before me.........but they didn´t, they were like robots and just kept going! The hot spar was nice (when we got there), I wouldn´t say it made up for the cycle, but it was relaxing. The next day I did nothing, and nor did most of the others, but we did drink some rum! lots and lots of rum. So the day after that I did nothing either! There is a big waterfall in La Fortuna, which was about a 2 hour hike from the hostel, a couple of girls were gonna do the same, so I joined them. Turns out that the hike was all up hill! and one of the girls was an iron woman champion. So yet again, they were waiting for me! The following day I did nothing! The weather in Costa Rica this time of year along the Pacific side is pretty wet, so most people I met said to go to the Caribbean side, where it should be much better. So I headed to Puerto Viejo, in the south east of the country. The weather was bad! So I satyed one day, in a pretty awful hostel, and decided to cross the boarder into Panama...............and so the story continues!
