Im back! Several weeks ago when I was in Guadalajara, I booked a cheap flight from Mexico City to Cancun. I had heard that a good place to stay was just off the coast of Cancun on an Island called Mujeres. There was only one hostel on listed on the web, so I headed to it! Luckily its a little less Americanized than the mainland, and is really chilled out! The first night there was a huge storm, and the following day it rained most of the morning! Not a good start, but after that the weather has been amazing! As I was heading down to the beach (Playa Norte) that afternoon, I noticed that there was a company advertising a scuba diving course for beginners. The price was quite steep (40 quid!), but it included initial training, and if they thought I was good enough, I could go out with them on 2 dives. The next day they sorted me out with some gear, and one of the chaps gave me about 30 mins of basic training. Then the dive master took me to the beach, and did some more training in shallow water (5 mins! not much eh!). He told me to stay near him on the dives, and everything would be fine!!! About six, others were waiting in the boat, and off we went. We did two dives in different locations, about 1/2 a mile from the Island. It was amazing! For me the first dive was better than the second, because I seemed to have problems with my mask steaming up! But everything was cool. On the dives we saw many many many fish! all colours. Some big schools of fish, may 200 hundred sat still, al facing the same way looking out at you from a cave. Plus, we also spotted some barracuda on the dives. It enjoyed the whole experience that much, that I went back and did it again the following day! On the second day we spotted a Manta Ray, it was lying on the bottom, covered in sand (lurking!). The dive master guy spotted it first, and they managed to get a few pics of it. Unfortunately, one of the girls didnt see it a nearly sat on it! So it was disturbed, and vanished! and they move very fast! Went to the beach this morning! and it has that classic postcard look about it, with white sand, really blue water and palm trees! Its really nice and hot! (Just thought I mention that to all of you working back in the cold cold UK) ,o) Tomorrow, I fly to Costa Rica, Via LA! (It was much cheaper and quicker!) PJ xxxxxx
