After seeing Guadalajara, I thought Mexico City would be quite similar, yet on a much bigger scale. Its supposed to be the worlds second largest City, so I also thought I would encounter perhaps slightly more poverty. But, actually its the other way. The city is big, but in places very wealthy, and vibrant. I was staying in a hostel around the area of Zona Rosa, which is a shopping and restaurant / bar area. This area was very fashionable and trendy. The city is split into several different areas, and by foot are a long walk apart. But Mexico City has a large metro system that covers most places..........and the best bit its only 2 Pasos per journey. (10 pence) The metro stations are better and cleaner than most other places Ive been including London. Albeit you do get some funny looks being over six foot, and white. Typically its got that city feel about it, were the people are a little less friendly, and more.........more whats the word..................British like! Throughout the city there are many old temples in ruin, from the original settlers that are over 1500 years old. The best place I went to was a place called Teotihuacan. (pronounced teo-tee-whak-a-caan) Not easy ehh! This is an old settlement from around 400 BC, and is north east of Mexico City; about 1 hour by local bus. The area is huge, and has 2 main pyramids, called the sun and the moon pyramids. The sun is the biggest and the moon slightly smaller. You can climb both if you wish. I only did the Sun pyramid, and that was enough! The down side to this place, is the amount of people trying to sell you cheap gifts. "Mi Amigo! One of Kind", "original pieces" only 10 pasos! .........Yeh for 50 pence they must be pretty rare! The Hostel was not too bad, but it was kind of empty. One night I went out with a Spanish girl, and a guy from Argentina (which was good - as they both spoke the language!), and we went to Zona Rosa for beer, and to listen to a band. It turned out the band was a punk rock band, and were singing famous covers from South America. It was kinda interesting, kinda! Well the beer was cheap anyway. Just a final note for all the drinkers and smokers reading this! Corona is 45 pence a bottle and a pack of ciggs is about 1 pound! Haaaa Haaa Haaa to all of you suckers!!!! I drink and smoke a few for you!
