One of the things I have missed the most down here is female companionship. As in the states as well, I have a ton more guy friends than girl friends. But here, it is just really hard to make friends with the girls, they are very wary of the foreigners and dont want to get too close. The closest Ive come in these 4 months to having someone to confide in and gossip with has been Veronica. But the 10+ years difference between us makes it a bit difficult. NOW though, I have a real girlfriend. She is the ex-wife of a friend of Pajaro and is just too cool. We are SO so different, we are both 23 years old, but she has been married, has three unruly children and has lived in Panajachel her whole life. I, on the other hand, am just hanging out before leaving for Asia, without a single child. (Much to the shock of every Guatemalan woman. Everyone thinks that P and I are married or engaged at the very least.) So anyway, Estela came over to visit last week bringing all her kids in tow (sadly, very bad mannered kids in my opinion) and we made a chocolate cake and bonded all afternoon. :) When we were done she invited me out to Guajimbos for coffee and we continued talking into the evening. Finally, the children saw their friends by the family store across the street and went to play. When Estela saw that, she said "come on!" and literally ran up the street. She needed to escape and have some girl talk just as desperately as I did. :)
To continue on the theme, my usual gossip buddy, Julie who is living in Japan, just invited me to come over and live with her in March since her man is being shipped off to Iraq. That is NOT good news for them, but as Ill be in the area, (*ahem* on the same continent) I am totally going over there. I cant wait to hang out with my girl again!
Also, my flight back to the states is Nov. 30th, then I fly out again to see my mother on the 20th. So Ill be in the Harbor and Bellingham for a couple weeks to see EVERYONE. It will be a very busy time for me.... :)
